Peek Inside the Flavor: Ajinomoto Philippines Relaunches Bulacan Factory Tour with Focus on Education and Green Innovation

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has officially opened the doors of its Bulacan facility to the public, launching the newly-minted World of Ajinomoto Philippines Factory Tour. The curated, free-of-charge learning activity is designed to take visitors on an immersive journey through the science, innovation, and people behind the global flavor pioneer that has been a staple in Filipino kitchens for over 65 years.

A Story Worth Sharing: Education Meets Experiential Learning

While the facility previously hosted straightforward visits for high school and university students, growing public interest prompted a total overhaul into a structured, sensory experience.

“We recognize that our factory has a story to share, so we thought that we need to include the facility to make the people understand more about the business,” shared APC Senior Vice President Mr. Makoto Tanabe.

The revamped tour bridges the gap between science and daily life, highlighting the discovery of umami (the fifth basic taste) and debunking the misconceptions surrounding monosodium glutamate (MSG).

APC President Mr. Daizaburo Koga emphasized that keeping the tour accessible remains a top priority for their corporate advocacy. “Actually, our factory is free-of-charge, so kids or students can easily visit and learn here. We hope that visiting our factory can contribute something to our students and visitors,” Koga stated.

Navigating the ‘Worlds’ of Ajinomoto

The interactive tour guides visitors through a series of specialized zones designed to showcase stringent quality control and sustainable manufacturing:

The World of Hygiene: The initial gateway where patrons learn the strict, imperative sanitation and handwashing protocols that govern the food production line.

The World of Hygiene greets the tour patrons as they enter the factory premises as it is imperative that everyone washes their hands as they enter.

The World of Innovation: The production heart of the facility, where visitors can witness how dried seasonings are formulated, packed, and strictly monitored.

The World of Ajinomoto PH includes the “World of Innovation”, which is the production building of all the dried goods.

The World of Chambers: A high-precision warehouse where safety is the utmost priority, tracking and sorting products flawlessly for national distribution.

Products are carefully tracked, sorted, and prepared for delivery in the World of Chambers. Operating under a precise and coordinated system, the warehouse places safety as its utmost priority.

Championing the 2030 Green Roadmap

Beyond the seasoning packets, the Bulacan tour serves as a live demonstration of APC’s commitment to the Ajinomoto Group’s global 2030 Roadmap, which aims to extend a healthy life expectancy for 2 billion people while cutting its environmental footprint by 50%.

Visitors will see sustainability in action, from the factory’s transition to 100% renewable energy to its groundbreaking green logistics. The facility boasts a pioneering, 40-foot Electric Vehicle (EV) tractor head and trailer wing van. The tour even highlights the rapid-charging infrastructure on-site, capable of completely powering the massive EV delivery truck in just an hour and a half.

These eco-friendly logistics pair with nutritional campaigns like I Love Veggielicious® (promoting vegetable consumption) and BawAsin® (encouraging salt reduction without sacrificing taste).

“We designed the factory tour so people can see what we mean by our ‘Eat Well, Live Well’ philosophy,” Mr. Koga explained. “It is really about encouraging everyone to enjoy delicious, nutritious meals that positively impact well-being.”

Products are delivered by the EV truck (right) from the factory to the logistic hubs for redistribution and delivered to various sales stations. The charging station (left) powers the EV truck and can fully charge the vehicle in an hour and a half.

What’s Next for Foodies?

When asked what the public can look forward to next from the brand as they expand their footprint in the market, Mr. Koga teased an expanding grocery portfolio. “You can enjoy our new products such as mayonnaise, instant soup, and frozen food like gyoza and karaage,” he revealed.
