“Sa multang nagkakahalagang P24 billion, sa kumpanyang pagmamay-ari ni Batangas Congressman, Leandro Leviste. Itong si ‘Wonder Boy’ ay napakaingay ngayon, nag-iingay tungkol sa Cabral Files. Basically, presenting himself as an anti-corruption champion. Pero tignan natin, kasi meron din palang napakalaking issue laban sa kanya,” this is how journalist Christian Esguerra opened his podcast episode titled ‘Malusutan kaya ni Cong. Leandro Leviste ang DOE?’
A lot have been said about the corruption issues in the Philippines. A lot have emerged as though presenting themselves as truth tellers and whistleblowers in the mess in the government. But is Cong. Leandro Leviste telling the truth? Or is he just creating a distraction to cover a mess that he’s actually involved in?
In an interview with Pinky Webb for Bilyonaryo, Cong. Leviste confirms that he is the owner of Solar Philippines.
Political online influencer Thea Tan asks, “how can Leandro Leviste be the sole owner of a company and yet claim he has no idea what it is doing?”
“In his recent Bilyonaryo interview, Leviste says he has “no day-to-day involvement” in his solar businesses after selling control of SPNEC to Meralco in 2023,” Tan adds.
“But he also admits that he still fully owns Solar Philippines, the parent company now facing the ₱24 billion in penalties for massive project failures,” Tan continues.
Last January 13, the DOE has imposed a ₱24-billion fine on Solar Philippines Power Project Holdings Inc. (SPPPHI). The penalty follows the company’s failure to deliver the power promised across more than 30 government service contracts.
Addressing the DOE sanction, Leviste contested the claim that SPPPHI failed to meet its targets, arguing instead that the majority of the projects were unable to proceed due to a lack of necessary permits.
Comments from social media now calls Leviste as the Kuryente King, “Kung si Zaldy Co daw ay Flood Control King si Leviste naman daw ay Kuryente King.”
