Ken Chan Plays the Most Challenging Role in His Career in “My Special Tatay”

After  portraying a transgender in the hit afternoon series Destiny Rose, GMA Network gives Kapuso actor Ken Chan another challenging role as a person with Mild Intellectual Disability in My Special Tatay.

My Special Tatay 00

He confesses that playing Boyet in the afternoon series is more difficult than playing a transgender woman because playing Destiny Rose, he puts on make-up, wear heels and dresses as a woman, he has those extras to make him feel his character but with Boyet in My Special Tatay, all he has is himself and his talent in acting.

But he’s thankful for the opportunity to play one of the roles in his bucket list. As he says, every actor dreams of playing a role that has mental disorder or someone who’s challenged mentally and socially.  But even if he admits that it’s the most challenging role he played to date, people behind the camera wasn’t disappointed in giving Ken Chan the role.

We were lucky enough to see the first episode and the series opened in an explosive way. Literally, explosions here and there as it presents the scene where Boyet gets to be a father. But it turns back to the backstory of the parents of Boyet in which we see former Kapamilya actors Empress Schuck, Matt Evans and Valeen Montenegro.

It shows what afternoon viewers wants: suspenseful and cringeworthy moments that will make sure you are glued to the screens.

The series looks to offer more than just family drama. Education for mentally challenged individuals, romance and some humor are expected says its main star Ken Chan.

My Special Tatay premieres September 3 on GMA Afternoon Prime after The Stepdaughters.
