The Streetboys, The Manoeuvres, UMD lead ‘The Sign 90s Supershow’ dance concert

You don’t need to be a fan of these iconic dance groups to be excited at the upcoming ‘The Sign 90s Supershow’ dance concert. You don’t even need to memorize a song, sometimes the choreography of the song is enough to be excited about the possibility of bringing together the people who made those dances popular. Sounds fun, right?

On April 19, 2024, 6PM, 90s kids who grew up to the dances of ‘Dying Inside,’ ‘Quit Playing Games With My Heart,’ The Macarena, ‘The Sign,’ ‘MMMBop’ and more will have the time of their lives grooving at ‘THE SIGN ’90s Supershow: A Benefit Concert’ happening at the Aliw Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City.

The dance concert will feature popular dance groups of the 1990s including the five (5) main groups: The Streetboys, The Manoeuvres, The UMD or Universal Motion Dancers, Kids at Work and Power X People.

Joining the 5 main groups with performances are Bigmen, Abztract, Dyna Turbo, Teensquad, katz22, Black & White, Mastermind, Blain, Wildcat Queens, and more.

The concert also aims to give inspiration to the dance community of the current generation of 2020s, and learn insights from the more senior dancers.

But it’s not just a dance concert, it’s also a way to give back and to give inspiration to hundreds of thousands who have passion for dance but doesn’t have the means or support to continue it, “Ang gabing ito ay ‘di lang isang pagtatanghal, ito ay isang MISYON upang magbigay ng inspirasyon sa paghubog ng kinabukasan ng kabataang Pilipino sa pamamagitan ng sining, sayaw at musika. Layunin ng grupo na magbigay daan at suporta sa bagong henerasyon ng dancers,” says the Executive Producer of the show, Ms. Opalyn Amistoso of Wild Cat Queen Productions.

We had the chance to talk to some of the performers during their press conference at the Farmers Plaza in Cubao, Quezon City.

On being together in one show even after having rivalries in the past:

“Actually, sobrang saya po namin kahit na po may rivalry that time with UMD or The Streetboys, iisa lang po kasi ang recording company namin. Nagkikita din po kami sa rehearsals pero magkakaibigan po talaga kami,” The Streetboys’ member Meynard answers.

“Ang difference before and sa present is may kanya-kanyang style kasi wala pang YouTube, wala pang napapanood sa internet. So, aabangan ng mga tao ‘yung mga grupo kung ano ang ipapakita nila sa TV. And it’s not about competing with each other, it’s all about being united. ‘Yung rivalry that time, siguro sa mga fans lang. Sa amin po wala,” Meynard continues.

But doing a reunion show isn’t wouldn’t be complete if all the members are not present. What about the other members not seen in the poster?

“Gustong gusto po namin silang makasama. Pinaka-problema lang talaga ang schedule. Nagkataon lang talaga na may kanya-kanya silang schedule on April 19,” Streetboys member Christo Cruz shares.

“Having said that, pupunta sila Spencer from UK. As much as possible na pinilit naming maging kumpleto, suprisingly naging okay po si Spencer. Nasa UK siya kasama niya si Michael and nag-yes si Danilo Barrios. And you’ll never know, after this kung maging maganda ang feedback, why not if given a chance makumpleto ang Streetboys,” Streetboys member Meynard Marcellano continues.

On the UMD side, member Marco McKinley also echoes the difficulty of the schedules of his co-members, “Si Wowie kasi po nasa Zumba. Kung nasaan si Wowie, nandun si Gerry. Sobrang advanced po ang schedule nila.”
