‘Widow’s Web’ cast on how they let go of their characters off cam

“Intense.” That’s how you can probably define the scenes in GMA Network’s newest primetime offering, ‘Widow’s Web.’

Starring mostly female actors led by Carmina Villaroel, Ashley Ortega, Pauline Mendoza and Vaness del Moral, the series is a murder-mystery drama series that tackles various forms of injustices–economic, legal, and, above all else, love.

But portraying characters with so much burden on their plate, how can they let go of it off cam?

Carmina Villaroel: “I’ve been in this business for more than half of my life. I’ve learned how to let go of my character especially ‘yung role ni Barbara and mga previous characters ko na mejo kontrabida na laging galit na very opposite ko. So, hindi ko siya madala because that’s not me. Hindi siya normal sa akin, madaldal lang ako pero hindi ako galiting tao. Actually, hindi siya effort for me to let go. Pagka-cut, cut na. Pag sinabing cut, siyempre hindi automatic na wala na akong tears, of course may carry over pa ‘yung pag-iyak mo pero iiyak mo lang, inom ka ng tubig. And after that, I’m good. Hindi ko talaga siya nadadala sa hotel or sa bahay kasi ‘pag dinala ko siya baka mawalan ako ng asawa, baka mawalan ako ng mga anak. So, definitely I let go, right away.”

The cast seems professional with their work. Not only that they know how to let go of their characters but there’s an understanding among them that’s evident with how they interact with each other during the bloggers’ conference.

The story follows the mysterious death of Alexander Sagrado III, or AS3 (Ryan Eigenmann). His demise leads to the undercover investigation of a former hotel employee named Elaine Innocencio (Pauline Mendoza) as she believes that her fiancé, Frank Querubin (EA Guzman), was wrongly accused of the crime.

To prove to herself her fiancé’s innocence and find the real suspect behind the mystery, Elaine applies as an assistant at the Sagrado Foundation, where she meets three women in Xander’s life: his grieving wife, Jackie Antonio-Sagrado (Ashley Ortega), Hillary Suarez (Vaness del Moral), Jackie’s friend and business colleague, and his older sister, Barbara Sagrado-Dee (Carmina Villarroel).

Joining the cast of Widows’ Web are Adrian Alandy, Christian Vasquez, Allan Paule, Tanya Gomez, Arthur Solinap, Karenina Haniel, Mosang, Dave Bornea, Mike Agassi, Neil Coleta, and Josh Morales.

The show also introduces young Kapuso stars Anjay Anson and Vanessa Peña.

‘Widows’ Web’ is the first-ever project of esteemed director Jerry Sineneng in GMA Network.

Widow’s Web is now airing on GMA Network, Mondays to Fridays, 8:50PM, after First Lady.
