It’s not usual for a TV network to produce a drama about a certain culture or religion. It takes a lot of time and effort to understand and interpret their stories that aims to be eye-opening, educational and entertaining all at the same time.
From the title itself, I wouldn’t be surprised if controversy will surround the series. ‘Legal Wives.’ GMA Network has offered a lot of stories and this one definitely has familiar themes but from the looks of the trailer, it seems they’ve really poured a lot of effort to mount something as huge, story-wise, as this. But how important is it for the stars to be part of this show?
Bianca Umali: “‘Yung concept of being part, ‘yung makatapos ng isang cultural serye, this being my second cultural drama after Sahaya, nakikita ko ‘yung importance ng ganitong serye, ng mga ganitong kwento through our art, through what we do in the industry, na makapag-bigay po tayo ng awareness at meron tayong maipapakilala sa buong mundo. Before I knew anything about the Islam people and their culture, doing the show, it was a wonderful experience na ang dami kong natutunan, ang dami kong nalaman na at times opposite ‘yung paniniwala or sensitive topics ang pinapakita, naa-appreciate ko and it’s fulfilling.
Andrea Torres: “Iba ‘yung pagmamahal ko sa show na ito dahil first show after the pandemic. ‘Nung nalaman ko din kung paano sila nag-research, ano ‘yung mga pinagdadaanan nila, talagang grabe din ang pag-edit sa script to make sure na tama ang nilalabas sa show. It’s more than a show, may malaking difference siyang magagawa tapos maiintindihan natin ‘yung mga Kapuso nating Muslim, and dahil ‘dun mas mabi-bridge ‘yung gap.“
Alice Dixson: “We’re hoping that all of our characters will make an impact to our viewers and I hope that this will be just a start of more cultural TV shows with GMA and we all continue to have more opportunities like this.”
‘Legal Wives’ airs Mondays to Fridays after ‘The World Between Us’ on GMA Telebabad.
