Timeless – that’s how fans call the trending video of Encantadia’s Aquil and Danaya, which was released more than two decades ago in 2005 on GMA Network.

DanAquil, from their characters Danaya and Aquil become the name of their love team. Alfred played the character Aquil, the commander of Lireo, while Diana played the character of Danaya, one of the four Sang’gres and the keeper of the Earth gem.

The success of Encantadia defined the fantasy genre on Philippine television. After its first season, it was followed by Etheria: Ang Ika-Limang Kaharian ng Encantadia in 2005-2006, which was followed by Encantadia: Pag-ibig Hanggang Wakas in 2006.

Because of the success of their love team, GMA Network gave Alfred and Diana a follow-up project, ‘Ang Pagbabago’ in July 2006, where the two went out of their comfort zones in acting and tried hosting.

The two also did a movie, ‘I Wanna Be Happy’, a comedy movie which also stars the late Eddie Garcia and Gloria Romero, and was directed by Jose Javier Reyes from Seiko Films. But before Encantadia, the two had already made a movie in 2003,from director Mac Alejandre, which was ‘Liberated.’

While the two may not be reunited as lovers in the 2016 requel of Encantadia, where Diana played LilaSari and later on, Alfred appeared as Amarro, which he also played in Etheria.

The roles of Aquil and Danaya were passed to Rocco Nacino and Sanya Lopez. Alfred’s Aquil died in the first season’s finale and then later on was added in Etheria as Amarro, the kind father of Aquil, who is half-Hathor and half-fairy.

Alfred’s return to Encantadia marks his comeback with the Kapuso Network. Alfred worked with his home station, ABS-CBN, in 2011, where he made a lot of teleseryes before he entered politics.

But up until now, his character Aquil is always remembered by the people, especially his “I love you!” scene with Danaya.

“Ang tagal na nitong Encantadia at nakagugulat na hanggang ngayon, may mga kinikilig ni pa rin sa amin. Nagulat nga ako nang may nag-tag, nagpadala sa akin niyong video. Nakatutuwa na trending siya. Maganda ang naging working relationship namin ni Diana at we remain friends until now. Hope makagawa uli kami ng movie o series,” shares Alfred.

With people still mentioning and reminiscing about the DanAquil love team, is it about time that the two be paired again?

We’ll have to wait and see.
