JM, JC, Pan, Win, Migz, and DJ of 1621 are all set to put their group’s name at the forefront of P-Pop. And what better way to do that than to release a new EP with six new songs that will not only cater to their fans but will also get noticed by casual listeners here and abroad.

What made them decide to remove the “BC” in 1621 BC and be just 1621?
“Last January, we decided to drop the BC because of the desire to promote modern and streamline identity para mas makilala kami. Starting January, sunod-sunod din ‘yung plano ng management for us, so mas gusto namin na tumatak din sa tao ‘yung pangalan na 1621,” JM answers.
“1621 po kasi is an angel number which means success, fulfillment and new beginnings. New beginnings since galing kami sa isang reality show sa ABS-CBN, na lahat kami hindi nanalo,” JM continues.
“Add ko lang din po, we remain the core essence ng songs and performance namin while we enter the new era of our music,” adds Win.
“And signal na din para mas may impact, nagi-aim din kasi kami ng global appeal,” Migz continues.
What’s the difference in 1621’s new era?
“From the first album, at the point parang hinahanap pa namin ‘yung sound namin. From the first album, we tried different styles, different genres. So, maybe ‘yung advantage ng second EP namin is nahanap na namin ‘yung sound namin, nahanap na namin ‘yung identity namin, nahanap na namin ‘yung songs namin for us,” shares Pan.
“With this second EP, nag-explore kami iba’t ibang concept. We tried mejo dark concept and then, we tried bubblegum pop songs. So, dito namin nalaman ‘yung reaction ng ibang supporters sa ibang social media platforms na bagay ‘yung songs at ito ‘yung songs na nagsu-suit sa amin. Dun namin na-realize na ‘yun nga kasi kapag pinerform namin, comfortable kami.”
What does their new EP ‘Sapulso’ mean?
“Simple lang po kasi lahat ng songs sa EP namin, sapul at tagos talaga siya sa puso. So, kapag in love ka or may crush ka, sapul na sapul sa puso,” DJ answers.
How do they feel about Bababa trending and being a dance craze now?
“Sobrang saya namin kasi sobrang saya namin ginawa ‘yung Bababa. Na-feel namin kung paano nag-enjoy mga tao, kung paano siya sayawin, paano siya gawing trend. So, tuwang-tuwa kami sa pagtanggap ng casuals sa Bababa,” JC shares.
“Nag-collab po kami ng SB19, BGYO, Michelle Dee, Rain, Kolette and Jas from PBB, and marami pa po,” JC continues.
It seems things are coming together for 1621’s “new era.” With Sapulso’s singles ‘Maria,’ ‘Bagamundo,’ ‘Bababa,’ ‘Secret,’ ‘Diwata’ and ‘Stuck,’ fans and casual OPM listeners can enjoy the different styles of the six-member group.
